The Life Fitness X1 Go Cross-Trainer has all the salient features of a hardcore professional elliptical machine. In fact the entire range of Life Fitness Elliptical Machines is renowned for its premium design and state-of-the-art features. I was initially hesitant to spend so much on one piece of gym equipment, when I could easily bought a regular home elliptical for half the price! But I heard rave reviews of this trainer from my colleague, went ahead with the purchase, and I’m really thankful I did not opt for any other machine!
The most unique aspect of this machine is its Link 6 Elliptical Drive System (which is basically responsible for the low-impact, ergonomic motion); coupled with an ideal 6.5 inch step on height and 16 different levels of resistance to opt from, this elliptical trainer is totally comfort personified! Also a special word of mention for its underlying WhisperStride Technology, which (as its name suggests) emanates almost zero noise! If you’re wondering about in-built workout programs and customizable options, Life Fitness gives you excellent choices with this cross trainer. Well, to begin with, you could opt for a ‘Go Console’ or a ‘Track+ Console’, based on whichever console you chose, you get options ranging from 2-4 user profiles, 12-14 built in workout programs and 12 customizable programs.

Size and Design
At the very outset, I’d like to tell you that you shouldn’t expect the Life Fitness X1 Go Cross-Trainer to be like other compact home-models. This machine boasts of an extra-sturdy build, a robust steel frame and weighs around 235 pounds, while it can easily accommodate a weight of about 350 pounds, which means two users can very easily use it simultaneously! This is in fact just like a high-end elliptical that you’ll come across at the gym, only slightly smaller and with less complicated features. But for home-owners with limited space to spare, you might want to re-think getting this. Thankfully I had ample space to spare for out fitness needs, and my entire family simply loves using this elliptical trainer, although my wife thinks it’s a bummer that it doesn’t even have wheels to move around while cleaning!
Comfort and Ergonomics
Very few ellipticals can beat the Life Fitness X1 Go Cross-Trainer in the Comfort and Ergonomics Department! It has taken years of research and development on part of Life Fitness to actually come up with a model that mimics natural human movements so seamlessly and swiftly! You can literally ‘feel’ the difference when you use an average home elliptical and this particular Life Fitness Elliptical, the experience being butter-smooth, owing to its cutting-edge WhisperStride Technology which makes use of self-aligning ball bearings for minimal impact on your joints, efficient calorie-burning and unimaginable fluidity! Thanks to its virtually noise-less operation, I didn’t have to sound-proof the gym door during our recent home renovation.
Safety
Whatever be the standard safety features that you expect in a home elliptical machine, you can easily find in the Life Fitness Elliptical. Talk about oversized pedals with an anti-skid surface, cushioned stationary bars to hold on to when you’re only working out your lower body, a user-centric rear drive design that’s ideal for short and medium statured users and alleviates pressure off your back or the rock-solid workout platform, there’re plenty in store for you as far as safety of this cross trainer is concerned.
Advanced Features and Personalization
I wouldn’t want to mislead you on this aspect. If you look at the pricing and design of the Life Fitness X1 Go Cross Trainer, you’d expect a highly advanced machine, not only in terms of comfort and functionality, but also in terms of personalization. But while I’d assign an A+ to this gizmo’s ergonomics and fluidity, the customizable workout programs are limited to just 2 in case of the Go Console and 12 in case of the Track+ Console. Moreover the stride and pedals are non-adjustable and you can make variations with 16 levels of resistance and incline. To be fair, there are some great add-ons like iPod compatibility, syncing with a number of health apps, accessories tray, cup holder, book/kindle rack etc, but it lacks an integrated tablet holder. Also the wireless as well as grip-based heart rate monitoring system and the advanced data tracking offered by the Track+ Console is awesome!
Console
I guess I’ve already told you about this Life Fitness Elliptical coming along with two console choices, the basic one (Go Console) and the advanced one (Track+ Console). Both of these are user-friendly LCD screens with blue backlights, and either ways, you get plenty of benefits. In case of the former, you get 2 user profiles for fitness tracking along with 12 pre-fed workout programs and 2 more customizable programs. Now the reason why the Track+ Console is more advanced (and will obviously cost you more) is because of its compatibility with Apple and Android Apps for wireless data transfer, and you get 4 user profiles, 14 in-built workout programs and 12 programs that you can customize based on your requirements! While I wanted the simple one, my tech-savvy children cajoled me to go for the Track+ version, and now I feel it’s truly worth it!
Warranty and Maintenance
When we talk about the warranty aspect of this fitness machine, the frame is duly covered by a lifelong warranty (although given how sturdy it is, I’m pretty sure you’d never have to use it anyways!). But it’s good to know that you’re covered, just in case something unpleasant happens. On the other hand, the ‘parts coverage’ is included for 3 years and the labor warranty is limited to one year. Also you can choose to shelve out an extra amount if you wish to opt for an ‘extended’ parts and labor warranty of 3 years or 5 years. Frankly speaking, this elliptical is already priced at a higher side, and not everybody would want to pay more for extended warranty, although it is the sensible thing to do!

Final Verdict
Some of us are entrants in the fitness arena and are just looking to ‘get into shape’, while others are just looking to maintain and enhance their already fit and fabulous bodies. Either ways, the Life Fitness X1 Elliptical is a truly great one-time investment for all your varietal workout needs, providing a diverse range of workout challenges, all the while ensuring that it doesn’t take a toll on your joints and other sensitive parts. It might be slightly on the expensive side, but you can expect it to cater to your fitness requirements all life-long, unlike other flimsy models that give away within a few years.
